All-in-Wonder 128 AGP 16MB (Personal Computers) Hi all,Well, I was the first to buy one of these cards inSouth Africa. And yes there were some pitfalls, but I'll get intothose later ... At the price it is a great card. DVD facilities, digital VCR, graphics accelerator and a whole host of usefull software included in the bundle. The graphics of the card are great, I was originally going for the 32M Riva TNT but when I saw the features of this card I was sold. Playing Half-life, Unreal, Speed 3, Star-Wars pod racer I have NO complaints - this card does what it's supposed to ... As far as the pitfalls go, Hmmmmmm , documentation inside the box , well, it is in all languages possible but doesn't really tell you much ! I was trying to read German to see if there was anything that was skipped out in the English version ! There is an on-line fault reporting service but they do take their time replying but they did manage to clear up one of my problems - I am still waiting for a reply for the other. All-in-Wonder 128 AGP 16MB (Personal Computers) This card was incredible when it was released (now almost 3years ago)! However, this video card is really starting to show its age...Since this card was released, ATI has release 3 new All-In-Wonders (All-in-Wonder 128 32 Meg, All-in-Wonder 128 Pro 32 Meg, and All-in-Wonder 128 Pro 16 Meg)! A fourth, newer revision will be released later this month (The new All-In-Wonder Radeon). ...While this older card still does a solid job with video captures, contemporary games struggle to cope with the card based on the original Rage 128 chipset (most games are too choppy to play now) as well as other tasks. Steer clear of this card until a newer version is offered... 5 of 5 people found the following review helpful: This review is from: ATI Technologies Inc. All-in-Wonder 128 AGP 16MB (Personal Computers) I have had good luck getting the AIW 128 AGP to run on a PII, 300mhz, with Win 95B - but the installation and setup was a bear. You MUST plan on downloading the most recent drivers, as the ones supplied are full of bugs. Rearranging the hardware interconnections on an existing system is also a bit tricky because it is poorly documented. And, unfortunately, it seems like the tech support people at ATI will go to any length to avoid answering questions directly. You will be referred to their website repeatedly, instead of being assisted. This might be ok, but the troubleshooting info on the website is very superficial and full of disclaimers (there are some other good sources of help, such as CNET, since the product is so popular). It would be a good idea to see if you can find a few other people who have this board up and running, so that you can get advice if you need it.Back to the board... The TV tuner works great, allowing me to use the computer monitor for Playstation...Read more |
