4.0 out of 5 stars True Single Slot HD4850, February 12, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Diamond 4850PE3512V ATI Radeon HD 4850 PCIE 512MB GDDR3 Dual DVI Video Card (Personal Computers)
Most single slot HD4850 are actually dual slots because with the non stock fans they occupy the slot next to them. This card uses the original stock cooler which is not as efficient for cooling but does allow it to fit in one slot. The packaging was a bit iffy and the protective plastic covering didn't actually fit the card but was burned in one place to allow it to fit. I am deducting one star due to the improper packaging. The card installed easily and windows Vista downloaded drivers for it automatically. I recommend getting the latest drivers from the ATI website nonetheless. The card is a bit noisy. Not loud, but sounds like air leaking from a balloon. Definitely louder than the NVIDIA 9500GS it replaced. It idles at 50C in my cramped case and runs red alert 3 at the highest settings with 2X anti aliasing in 1680x1050 at 55C. I haven't tried it in anything else yet, but that seems good enough. Best bang for the buck definitely, especially at $124.32 AR...Read more

I am upgrading from a 7800GTX and I must say that this card rocks!! I have a E8400 Core 2 duo to go along with this and everything is just silky smooth. You need to get this card... No "ifs" "buts" or "maybe"

Far Cry 2: 80+ FPS (DX9)
Fallout 3: 70+ FPS (Max everything..even AA!)
Crysis Warhead: 50+ FPS (Gamer Setting)
Half life 2 Deathmatch: too fast!!! :-)

The point is that whatever game you are running this will just blow it out of the water... and combined with a dual core processor... it becomes a beast... why waste money on a 4870??!!....well unless you have a 22" monitor and can go to extreme resolutions... but for 20" downwards this is way more than sufficient (I have 19" CRT)

5.0 out of 5 stars good card, August 8, 2009
This review is from: Diamond 4850PE3512V ATI Radeon HD 4850 PCIE 512MB GDDR3 Dual DVI Video Card (Personal Computers)
I bought a studio xps from dell. It has a intel i7 cpu and only has a 350 watt power supply and of course dell's version of this card.

In left 4 dead, I play on max settings and vertical sync and get a constant 60 frames a second at 1920x1080 w/ 2xMSAA anti-aliasing, 4xMSAA makes it drop to around ~30 frames a second. If I turn the resolution down a notch I can play at 4xMSAA and get 40+ frames most of the time.

In Crysis warhead, I play at 1920x1080 with vertical sync and no anti-aliasing. Post processing, textures, and shadows are all set to gamer quality, and shaders are set to enthusiast(the highest setting) and I get about 30 frames a second with dips into the high 20's. If i turn down a few settings, I can play at 2xMSAA anti-aliasing with roughly the same as before at 30fps. I can also turn the resolution down to 720p and turn up the anti-aliasing to 4xMSAA and get the same FPS, ~30fps. I will note that turning down a few settings a notch, shadows in...Read more
