It's supposed to be somewhere performance wise between the GT 220 and a 9800 GT if that gives you a better idea where it stands in the lineup.
A GT 240 comes in three different varieties. There is a version with 512MB DDR3 memory, a version with 1GB DDR3 memory, and the version you're looking at here with 512MB memory. If you're not familiar with the difference, DDR5 memory is significantly faster. Ignore the 1GB DDR3 model! In nearly all cases, you'll get better performance with 512MB of DDR5 than a whole gig of DDR3. A lot of these cards have a lot of slower memory so they can say they have a lot, but realistically you'll probably never benefit from it. Benchmarks I've seen show the DDR3 versions as significantly inferior. Faster memory = much better performance. **UPDATE:...Read more 5 of 5 people found the following review helpful: Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: EVGA nVidia GeForce GT 240 512 MB DDR5 VGA/DVI/HDMI PCI-Express Video Card 512-P3-1240-LR (Personal Computers) I bought this to replace the motherboard graphics. I liked it because it will install on rigs with 350 watt power supplies. The only game I play with it is Starcraft II which will run on high settings at 60-90 frames per second. It plays bluray fine and has a windows score of 7.2. Very quiet and does not produce too much heat. The only thing is that according to your motherboard you might have to relocate one of your cards to another spot. This review is from: EVGA nVidia GeForce GT 240 512 MB DDR5 VGA/DVI/HDMI PCI-Express Video Card 512-P3-1240-LR (Personal Computers) I bought this card to be able to watch broadast and internet TV on my computer an also my LCD TV. Plug in and set up was a breeze. Everything fit and worked perfectly. I hooked the DVI plug to my LCD computer monitor and the HDMI out to my LCD TV. Great picture and video on both. Clystal clear HD. Movies and videos run fine. I'm not a big video gamer, so this card was all I needed. Software was easy to work with and I was able to customize settings easily. If you don't need the fastest card for gaming, this one is a great deal. |
