Product Review
Product Description
The HighPoint RocketRAID 2310 PCI Express to SATA II RAID Controller is the next generation for high performance computing solutions utilizing the latest interconnect PCI-Express.
The RocketRAID 2310 is set to give much faster and improved I/O and supports features that are critical for high performance computing, high end workstation and enterprise storage server environments.
Comment: The required rr2310_00 module is not included in the default Debian/etch kernel so I skipped the packages and compiled my own module from the download location on Highpoint's website. It was uneventful and seems to work great:
(4x1T drives connected in a RAID5 array managed by the Highpoint)
[ 2.492019] rr2310_00:[0 0] Start channel soft reset.
[ 2.492066] rr2310_00:[0 1] Start channel soft reset.
[ 2.492105] rr2310_00:[0 2] Start channel soft reset.
[ 2.492144] rr2310_00:[0 3] Start channel soft reset.
[ 2.804001] rr2310_00:channel [0,0] started successfully
[ 2.804001] rr2310_00:channel [0,1] started successfully
[ 2.804001] rr2310_00:channel [0,2] started successfully
[ 2.804001] rr2310_00:channel [0,3] started successfully
[ 3.220138] sd 0:0:0:0: [sda] Very big device. Trying to use READ CAPACITY(16).
[ 3.222419] sd 0:0:0:0: [sda] 5860098048 512-byte hardware sectors (3000370 MB)
Without the proper module, the (up to) 4 connected drives are at least detected as normal drives and you can use software RAID if you are forced to for some reason.
It's about as fast as my old 3ware controller (that was only replaced because of the 2T hard limit on it). So far so good. Hopefully a drive can die and it will be uneventful like I'm used to. Haven't used any of the management tools yet but the array itself is working great.
Customer Rating:
Summary: terrible 2007-10-04
Comment: windows 2003 server x64 driver doesn't work. all driver not signed. absolutely no tech service from this company. they do not directly answer their phones and they do not reply to email and phone messages.
