On this card, the otherwise capable HD5550 is crippled by ridiculously slow DDR2 memory. Look for the 512mb version instead which has super fast GDDR5 memory. Contrary to popular belief, the speed of graphics memory is far more important than the amount.

Tried to install the HIS Digital HD5550 as an external display controller in a ViDock chassis. Couldn't get the HIS driver to install correctly. I got a message that it installed "with warnings," but the install log gave no error messages. My laptop sees the HD5550 in Device Driver, but the laptop can not detect the monitor connected (properly) to the card. I called HIS Digital's tech support number five times today. Each time I got a message that no one was available. I checked out the HIS Digital Facebook page. Under Discussions, I found a thread called "Watch Out" and another on "Customer Service." Basically, my experience with their tech NON-support has been shared by others. According to one post, trying to get an RMA to return the card is difficult at best. I don't know how good the card is if you can get it to work. What I do know is that their tech support and customer service is a joke.

This card is a step up from my Radeon HD 3450 i just wish its DDR2 memory was a little bit better say like DDR3 or 5 but it holds its own on games from early 2009 and Backwards and a few recent Casual games but if you looking for a card that can be used for other things then games then this is your best bet for your buck it supports Full HD 1080p and so much more.
