Summary: Video card upgrade 2010-07-25
Comment: This replaced a Nvidia 8800 that went bad after about two years. I will say it's an average board and there are better ones from ATI. At the time I just needed something affordable to throw in my old Dell 620 tower. It will get replaced by a higher end board later this year. The performance is OK but you have to tone down the settings in games like ARMA II and Flight Sim X.

Summary: Excellent Add-on video 2010-06-12
Comment: Used this card to upgrade the video capabilities of a PC assembled almost four years ago. It is all it is advertised to be. Surprisingly quiet (almost silent). Accordingly, suggest cleaning dust from the fan bearings occassionally based on how clean your PC environment is...and lubricating them (do internet search for how to do that), else the quietness quality will 'go south' over time. This is a low power Redwood chipset and not for a serious gaming rig -- gamers are probably not looking at this card anyways -- but dads thinking about surprising a teen gamer with a new or updated PC, NADA.

I needed updated video (and was shocked when the PC went almost silent after adding this card) and wanted to experiment with HDMI before building an HTPC. This card will go into the future HTPC, but will likely order another of these (with great prices on them now -- do search for lowest price) soon because I am building a high-end engineering workstation with an i7-9xx series processor. If one of these cards is not enough for the WS then I will use multiples in crossfire and not have to worry about noise, power or heat problems.

Does not use a separate power connector, a benefit if you have an older PC that does not have one with the PSU. However, two or three of these in one MB might be a power draw problem for some MBs so might might need a modular PSU with 3-4 12v rails or a high amp single rail, quality PSU.

Not an overclocker so do not know how this card does in the situation where you have to overdrive the video card to overclock the CPU...but I would choose a MB that lets you keep the video card in spec if overclocking is the intent. Overclocking might be an interesting option with certain AMD Phenom II X3, X4 or X6 cpus (or black edition Athlons) because this card is advantaged with AMD processors (according to the manufacturer). An Athlon X3 440 with a low cost mATX MB (forget onboard video) and one of these cards should make a very nice (and low cost) HTPC running Linux or 'vlite'ed Vista (w/media center) left over after going Win 7.
