It is a USB 2.0 host-to-host link adapter allowing you to migrate files and settings from an existing computer running Windows XP or Windows Vista to another new computer running Windows Vista or 7. I plugged it and followed the instruction and it failed to work. Gave it to my daughter who bought a new computer also, to transfer date from her old computer and it also failed to work. Cheap product with a high cost because it does not work

The IOGear Smartlink USB 2.0 Adapter GUN262WV Easy Transfer Cable did just what it was designed to do for me on my Vista machine.

It made transferring data between my desktop and laptop a breeze. It was very easy to follow the instructions from Windows Easy Transfer.

The cable simplified the transfer and worked like a charm. I'm very happy with this purchase.

I often transfer large files between my office computer and a netbook - both running Windows XP - and my home computer which runs Windows Vista. I was looking for a way of doing that transfer directly instead of using email or USB drives as intermediaries. This product caught my attention because it was advertised as "ideal" for such transfers. This turned out to be deceptive.

This product was designed with a single purpose in mind - a one time file transfer from an "old" Windows XP machine to a "new" Windows Vista or Windows 7 machine. If you want to transfer files the other way, this product simply will not do it. This seems to be the fault of the software that comes with the product and also is a part of Windows Vista and does not allow two way transfers. This rather serious limitation is not stated in the product's description.
