PNY's Nvidia GeForce 7900 GS provides you with full Microsoft DirectX 9.0 Shader Model 3.0 support, the standard for today's PCs and next-generation consoles, enabling the most stunning and complex effects for cinematic realism. This Nvidia GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) offers the most complete implementation of the Shader Model 3.0 feature set, including vertex texture fetch (VTF), to ensure top-notch compatibility and performance for all DirectX 9 applications. When this is combined with the 7900's use of the CineFX 4.0 Engine to deliver advanced visual effects at unimaginable speeds, you get stunning and complex special effects for faster and smoother gameplay.
PNY's GeForce 7900 GS utilizes Nvidia SLI (Scalable Link Interface) technology that allows two PCI Express (PCIE) graphics cards in the same computer system to be linked via a small hardware bridge to run in parallel. Delivering up to two times the performance of a single GPU configuration, Nvidia's SLI technology dramatically scales performance on the most demanding games, and is a must-have feature for PCIE graphics in some of the most powerful gaming systems. This graphics card also supports true High Dynamic-Range (HDR) rendering based on the OpenEXR technology from George Lucas' Industrial Light and Magic. Nvidia's 64-bit texture implementation delivers state-of-the-art, HDR visual effects through floating point capabilities in shading, filtering, texturing, and blending, for the ultimate in lighting effects to bring environments to life in a truly immersive, ultra-realistic experience.
More than just for extreme gamer's, the 7900 GS GDDR3 graphics card features Nvidia PureVideo technology, a combination of high-definition video processors and decoder software that delivers unprecedented picture clarity, smooth video, accurate color, and precise image scaling for all video content to turn your PC into a high-end home theater. High-quality scaling technology delivers a clear, clean image at any window size, including full-screen HDTV resolutions up to 1080p, while OpenGL 2.0 optimization support ensures top-notch compatibility and performance for OpenGL applications. This graphics card also features Nvidia Digital Vibrance Control 3.0 technology that allows the user to adjust color controls digitally to compensate for the lighting conditions of their workspace, in order to achieve accurate, bright colors in all conditions, as well as dual Dual-Link DVI support that makes it able to drive two of the industry's largest and highest-resolution (up to 2,560 x 1,600) digital flat-panel displays. Finally, the 7900 GS has been built with the future in mind, with Nvidia's third-generation GPU architecture built for Windows Vista to give users the best possible experience with the 3D graphical user interface in Microsoft's upcoming operating system.
The Nvidia GeForce 7900 GS requires an Intel Pentium III, AMD Duron, or Athlon class processor or higher, 256 MB of RAM, and a minimum 350-watt system power supply. This unit also requires a PCI Express compliant motherboard and supplementary power connector, 50 MB of available hard disk space, a CD- or DVD-ROM drive, Microsoft Windows 2000, XP or higher, and a VGA or DVI-I compatible monitor. The 7900 GS has a 450MHz Core clock speed, 256-bit memory interface, and a 1.32GHz effective memory data rate. This graphics card also has 42.2 GBs-per-second of memory bandwidth, a 10.8-billion pixels-per-second fill rate, and 822.5-million vertices-per-second setup. The 7900 GS peaks at 20 pixels per clock and is backed by a manufacturer's one year warranty.

This review is from: PNY Nvidia GeForce 7900 GS 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express Graphics Card (Personal Computers) This is my first mid-range card. I was not disappointed. It has all the hardware supports required by DirectX 9.0c. This means that you will get a decent game experience with most of the games currently out on the market.
Note that this card does not have hardware support for DirectX 10. This means that you won't be able to take full advantage of the new video features of Windows Vista. In summary, if you play the latest games on an XP machine, you will not be disappointed. If you intend to do serious gaming on Windows Vista with games to come, buy a card that supports DirectX 10. 4 of 4 people found the following review helpful: By Fox Mulder "the X files" (OH,USA) - See all my reviews This review is from: PNY Nvidia GeForce 7900 GS 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express Graphics Card (Personal Computers) I'm not an avid gamer but every now and then i will buy a game i like.
I purchased Need For Speed Most Wanted, and on my X600 SE 256mb card it could not handle full resolution without being choppy. I wanted a better card but didn't want to buy a high end card for say $500. I had settled on the X1600XT as Dell recommended it for my machine. However after researching online for a few hours and speaking to the guy at best buy, i purchased this card for $179. I have to say i am well impressed with it. I can play Most Wanted on full resolution and full graphics on my 24" LCD Monitor. It looks awesome. I also brought Half Life 2 which is also full graphics and resolution and no choppyness whatsoever. It was well worth the money. The only problem i had was that after installing the card the plug from my power supply was very short and it would not reach the graphics card. Luckily i had a small power supply extension from an old machine. I put that on and it reached ok. They certainly have had ample time to have drivers ready. Maybe they just want you to spend twice the amount of money, and buy their 8800 Series cards. |
